Annotyze™ is made by Newton Cuff ("we"). This policy covers the Annotyze app for iPhone and iPad, and this website, annotyze.com.
1. The Annotyze App
The short version
Annotyze doesn't collect your data. Everything you create stays on your device. There's no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party code, and the app makes no network requests of its own.
What the app keeps on your device
- Your annotations: the shapes you draw (as positions on the photo), and the metadata, tags and notes you write, with their dates.
- Details of the photos you annotate: each photo's Photos library identifier, file name, size, dimensions and dates, plus a small thumbnail.
- Your albums and settings.
- Apple MetricKit diagnostic reports (crash, hang and performance data). These contain no photos, annotations or personal information.
This stays in the app's storage on your device and is never sent to us. It's included in your device backups if you use iCloud or computer backups. It's deleted when you delete the app.
Your photos
Annotyze asks for access to your Photos library so you can choose photos to annotate. It never changes or uploads them. You can give Full or Limited access, and change it at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos. If a photo is stored in iCloud Photos, Apple's Photos framework may download it to your device so it can be shown. That happens between your device and your iCloud account, not through us.
The camera
If you use Take Photo, Annotyze asks for camera access and uses the camera only while you take the picture. The photo is saved to your Photos library (which is why the app asks to add photos) and then opened for annotation. Annotyze doesn't add your location to the photos it takes. You can change camera access in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.
AutoDetect
AutoDetect and the subject glow use Apple's Vision framework entirely on your device. Your photos are never sent anywhere to be analyzed.
Export and import
Export Data creates a file with your annotations and photo details and saves it wherever you choose, such as Files or iCloud Drive. The file contains no photos. The app never sends it anywhere. Import reads only a file you pick.
Contacting us
Contact Support and Suggest a Feature open your email app with a message addressed to us. Your app version, build, device model and iOS version are filled in, and nothing is sent unless you send it. If you email us, we use your address only to reply and never share it.
Your choices
Because we hold none of your data, there's nothing for us to give you, correct or delete. You're in control in the app: remove annotations or photos from Annotyze at any time, or delete the app to remove all of its data.
2. This Website
Website Analytics
When you visit annotyze.com, we record anonymized traffic data, used only for aggregate traffic analytics:
- What is recorded: the page requested, the request method and response status, how long the page took to serve, the time, your browser's user-agent string, and the referring page
- IP Addresses: Anonymized before they are stored — IPv4 addresses keep only their first three octets (192.168.1.X → 192.168.1.0) and IPv6 addresses only their first 48 bits
- Retention: Traffic records are deleted after 90 days
- Cookies: We do not use cookies for tracking. The only cookie this site sets is a functional one for invited reviewers previewing the site before launch
- Theme preference: If you choose Light or Dark, that choice is kept in your browser's local storage and is never sent to us
- Fingerprinting: We do not use browser fingerprinting
- Third-party trackers: We do not embed any third-party tracking scripts
How we use it
The anonymized traffic data shows us which pages are most visited, helps us keep the site fast and available, and helps us improve it. We do not sell, share or transfer it to anyone.
Third-party services
Neither the Annotyze app nor this website uses any third-party analytics, advertising or tracking services. There are no embedded third-party scripts, pixels or SDKs.
3. Children's Privacy
Annotyze is rated 4+ and collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
4. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we'll update it in the app and on this page with a new date.
5. Contact Us
If you have questions or concerns about this privacy policy, email us at [email protected] or write to us via the About page.
